Atavisi Buddha Pooja Vandana & Mapiya Vandana at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara Birmingham

A special Atavisi Buddha Pooja Vandana & Mapiya Vandana was held in Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham on 26th of January 2014. The main idea of this annual program was to build up the gratitude between parents ,children and merit transferring to the departed parents and to bless our parents who are alive with us.

The program was successful with the gathering of devotes under the guidance led by most venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thero, Chief Sangha Nayaka in the United Kingdom for Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya, Ven T Sugatharathana thero and Mrs. Achala Maha withana, the teacher of the Dhamma School.

The Atavisi Buddha puja was commence with placing 28 Buddha Statue at the shrine room of the Jethavana viharaya.

The chief guest of this event was Mr. Lalith Sepala Ratnayake , Minister (Consular & Immigration) of Sri Lanka high commission.

Introduction and punnanumodana of the programme was conducted by Rev K.Gunawansa thero Atavisi pooja was conducted Ven T. Sugatharathana Thero and Mapiya Vandana programme was conducted by Ven. Batuwangala Rahula Thero .

Invitation for Rainy Retreat “Vas Aradhanava” 2013 at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham

Invitation for Rainy Retreat “Vas Aradhanava” 2013 at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham was held with the members and devotees gathered at the temple premises in the evening of 21st July 2013. Most Ven. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Maha thera, the Head of the Vihara, Ven. Watagedara Wimalabuddhi the chief Nayaka Thero of Sri Pannananda Maha Pirivena Maharagama Ven.Mapalagama Soratha Thero, and Ven. Beragama Piyarathana Thero were respectfully invited to observe retreat this year. Administration of five precepts and Buddha Wandana programme was conducted by Venerable Mapalagama Soratha Thero.

Special short Dhamma sermon was given by Ven. Watagedara Wimalabuddhi Thero on the tropic of the importance of observing rainy retreat. Dhammachakka Sutta was specially chanted to bless all members and devotees after the Punyanumodanava given by the Head of the Vihara, Most Ven.Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Maha Thero, Chief Sanghanayaka of Great Britain. This year Kathina Ceremony has been sponsored by Mr. Wastnta Perera & Mrs Sita Perera and family. All JBV devotees attended the events with much faithfully towards the Triple Gem.

Vesak Celebration at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham 2013

Vesak is the major Buddhist festival of the year for all Sri Lankans as well as many Buddhist around the world as it celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha.

This year too on the 26th of May 2013 hundreds of Sri Lankan devotees from various part of the UK gathered at the Jethavana Buddhist Vihara Birmingham to participate in the 2013 Vesak Programmeorganised under the guidance of Most Venerable Keppetiyagoda Guanawansa Maha Thero.

The day long programme commenced in the morning with devotees observing eight precepts and participating in meditation programmes and Dhamma discussions by Ven.Kirama Rathanasiri Thero, an academic at Richmond College, Galle Sri Lanka. This was followed by Buddha Wandana conducted by Venerable Mapalagama Soratha Thero.

Lunch for the Buddhist priests and devotees was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs Ganewatta and family with much devotion along with several other contributions from many other participants to make the event a success.

The highlight of the Vesak programme was the ‘Vesak Bakthi Gee’ conducted by a group of young, professional musicians ‘Sath Swara Musical Group’ from Stoke on Trent. This was followed by a ‘Tea Dansala’ which participants were offered with tea, biscuits and cakes kindly sponsored by Director of Maliban Biscuit Manufactories (Pvt) Ltd. Mr. Laxman Weerasooriya and Mr. Palitha Bandara.

The 2013 ‘Vesak Programme’ at the Vihara concluded with great success after a day full of Activities and events participated by the devotees with much devotion and enthusiasm to commemoratethe birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha.

Children’s Vesak Celebration at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham 2013

Under the guidance of Venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Maha thera the chief incumbent of Jethavana Buddhist Vihara the children’s Vesak Day Programme was held on Sunday19th May 2013. Ven. Mapalagama Soratha thero conducted the programme with children observing eight precepts. Thereafter the programme was continued with a session for meditation and Dhamma discussion conducted by Ven.Nepol Sumana thero from the Kingsbury Buddhist Vihara, London.

The highlight of the day was the ‘Siddharatha Nanumura Mangalyaya’ participated by all the children. This was followed by a colourful vesak lantern competition which the children were awarded with 3 prizes. The children from the Dhamma school of the Vihara along with the devotees gathered for the annual Vesak Bakthi Gee’.

This years programme was sponsored by Dr. Prabath Suraweera & family and Dr Ashan Gunaratne & family. The programme was highly successful with around 40 children participating to ‘observe sil’ and their parents attending with much devotion to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of the Buddha.
